Sydney Sweeney's Style Evolution Since Euphoria

Since her debut role as Cassie in "Euphoria," Sydney Sweeney has transformed and evolved with her fashion choices, both on the red carpet and off. The talented actor can seamlessly morph between Hollywood glam when she's at film premieres to worn-in overalls when she works on old cars — showing us that she stuns even without makeup. And while fans have had the opportunity to enjoy Sweeney in iconic roles like Olivia in "The White Lotus" and Julia Cornwall in "Madame Web," there's been a noticeable lapse of time since the second season of "Euphoria" aired in 2022.

Rumors might be swirling about the show's return after a statement given by HBO to Deadline, in which the company said, "HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities." But Sweeney gave fans a hint of hope in a 2024 interview with Who What Wear. "It's going to be very, very wild," she said of her character's narrative in season three of "Euphoria." Here's a look at the star's style evolution since the premiere of the edgy teen drama — and to *fingers crossed* another season of "Euphoria" in the future.

2019-2020: Sydney Sweeney has her breakthrough roles

The world got a closer insight into Sydney Sweeney's work in 2019 through her roles in "Euphoria" and "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Her style during this era was evident on the red carpets she graced, where she wore a lot of classic gowns. She also wore velvet minis, like this one at the 2019 Harper's Bazaar ICONS on September 06, 2019, in New York City. However, through social media posts shared by the star, we got to see another side of Sweeney — a far more casual and comfy one. This dichotomy truly seems to capture the essence of her personality.

"When I'm on set [for a role], I feel at home, comfortable, and confident. I'm also this other character, and it is the one making these choices and getting judged and saying all these things. But when it comes to a red carpet, I get nervous because everybody is like, 'Here's Sydney Sweeney!' But in reality, Sydney Sweeney is a girl who is usually wearing no makeup, jeans and a T-shirt, and running around barefoot outside," Sweeney told Vogue in 2024.

2021: The White Lotus era

Sydney Sweeney's style became more defined in this era with a feminine, girly, and youthful energy. She wore her hair in a long, romantic style most of the time and her red carpet looks somehow turned up the glamor even further. "The White Lotus" is a big hit this year and this was a new type of role for Sweeney — one that extended beyond her previous genres.

"But I was so nervous and I was so scared because I've never done comedy quite like that. When I realized that I was nervous going into the audition process, I really wanted it, because I knew it was going to be a challenge. And if something challenges me, then I'm going to go for it, full force," Sweeney told Deadline in 2022, speaking of her role. The star rocked her feminine and playful aesthetic at the GQ Men Of The Year Celebration on November 18, 2021, in West Hollywood, wearing a chic one-shoulder minidress with simple pearl earrings.

2022: Sydney Sweeney expresses her edgier side

In this era, we started to see some edge from Sydney Sweeney. Her magazine shoots held more artistic elements and we saw risks being taken in her fashion choices — like her Vogue Hong Kong cover in July 2022, which showed her with bleached eyebrows. This is also when the second season of HBO's "Euphoria" came out (and inspired the hourglass nail art trend), so we got another piece of Cassie's timeline — a tumultuous one as anyone who watched the season will remember.

"I look very different in everything I do because I want to become the character individually, and I don't want people to associate Sydney Sweeney with a character — I want them to fully feel like they're experiencing another world and another person," Sweeney told The Hollywood Reporter in 2022, explaining that the characters she plays do temporarily influence her looks when she's involved in those projects.

Sweeney was seen at the "Euphoria" FYC at Paramount Theatre on December 18, 2022, in Los Angeles, wearing black knee-high socks and a bowtie that very much nailed the girlcore trend, despite not being pink. Her vibe was artsy with an edge — and was quite a contrast from how she had previously expressed herself.

2023: The star's romantic comedy era

With the release of "Anyone But You," Sydney Sweeney had the opportunity to share her comedic talent. The film was a hit, grossing more than $200 million globally. As a result, her style in 2023 veered back into the classic Hollywood beauty realms and she emulated a beloved romcom actress in her red carpet looks with feminine dresses and classic silhouettes. The style seemed to suit her well, even though the film was new territory for her — however, it looks as though we might be seeing even more of romcom Sydney in the future.

"There are so many romantic comedy scripts that are getting sent to me now! And I would love to do another one. It just has to be the right script," Sweeney told Variety in 2024. At the 80th Venice International Film Festival 2023 on September 03, 2023, in Venice, Sweeney looked like a true Hollywood princess in a girly blush-pink gown.

2024-Present: A superhero comes out to play

In 2024 we saw Sydney Sweeney shapeshift once again. She gave us a slightly darker vibe with the release of "Madame Web" and "Immaculate." The suphero vibes were strong in her red carpet looks and rightly so, as "Madame Web" was her first Marvel movie. We saw her at the world premiere of Sony Pictures' "Madame Web" at Regency Village Theatre on February 12, 2024, in Los Angeles. Naturally, she wore a web-themed gown in black that was perfectly on brand for the film premiere. We also saw some horror images from "Immaculate" shared on her Instagram account around this time, showing us the actress truly does have range.

"I honestly just vibe with whatever event's going on. It's always a little bit different. That's the fun thing about all of this, it's like playing dress-up. It's boring to do the same thing over and over again," Sweeney told People in 2024, confirming that no one can fully predict what her style evolution will bring in the coming years. But we can't wait to witness it!
